Pangaea Equestrian Services is husband and wife team, Knutur and Cerice Berndsen. We offer a variety of services to horse owners, including Farrier Services, Private Instruction at our location or yours, Clinics, and Horse Training.
At Pangaea Equestrian Services we believe that to really enjoy our horses, we must fully understand them and care for them based as much as possible on their individual needs. That's why we offer services that not only help owners and riders care for their horses, but also help them to constantly learn. We understand that each horse and rider is as unique as the next and approach them in that light. Our training program focuses on the needs of the individual with the ultimate goal of absolute connection between horse and rider. We encourage continuous learning and education in our clients, horses, and most importantly in ourselves.
Farrier Services- Knutur Berndsen is a 1995 graduate of the farrier program at Holar University in Iceland, and a 2006 graduate of the Kentucky Horseshoeing School. Not only is he a skilled hoof care professional, but he brings to the table a lifetime of experience as a horse owner, rider, and professional trainer. For more information on farrier services and hoof care, please see the Farrier Services page.
Other Services- Private Instruction: Knutur & Cerice are available for private riding instruction at our location in Tryon, NC or at your location within a 45 mile radius. All breeds and disciplines are welcome! Riders must supply their own horse.
Clinics: Both Knutur and Cerice are available for clinics year round, either individually or as a team. Knutur's expertise is helping riders learn to effectively communicate with their horses be it to improve the pleasure riding experience, train a young horse from the ground up, or enhance training for competition. Cerice's focus is on rider performance as a way to help the horse do its job and to build the horse and rider team. Together, Knutur and Cerice make a dynamic teaching team that is far more comprehensive than a single instructor clinic.
Horse Training: The philosophy of training and horsemanship at Pangaea Equestrian is one based in the fundamentals of Natural Horsemanship, Classical Dressage, and an understanding of gaits in both gaited and non gaited breeds. We believe that a versatile horse is one of a sound mind and body, and that a horse who has been well educated is a willing and fun partner.
We will be taking horses in training on a limited bases. Please contact us directly for information on availability and prices.

Knutur has also worked as a consultant in the areas of training, breeding, and herd and farm management. He had aided in sales and international purchasing trips, as well as given clinics on horsemanship, riding, hoof trimming, and shoeing.
Having been born and raised with horses, Cerice has a vast breadth of experience in the horse industry. Her involvement has extended from Western and English riding to carriage driving, breeding, and training. During her younger years Cerice rode Western on her mother’s home bred Quarter Horses, competed in carriage driving with Draft Horses, and trained in jumping. After a move to Dutchess County’s Hunt Country she continued training in jumping on locally owned Field Hunters. Cerice started working professionally with horses while still in high school. Having assisted at every level from breeding, pre-natal care, and delivery complications; Cerice has extensive experience with brood mares and foals. After two years of college, Cerice resumed her career with horses to work again with breeding horses, as well as Show Jumpers, Dressage horses, Hunter/Jumpers, and fine Carriage horses. She has a passion for expanding her knowledge and skill as a professional horsewoman and is dedicated to horsemanship as an art form.
